You might encounter a lot of unfamiliar terms when you start looking for hair extensions. The term ‘pre-bonded hair extensions,’ in particular, can be confusing. In some salons, it refers to either u-tip or nail tip types. But technically speaking, pre-bonded hair extensions can be used to call any type of hair extension with tips bonded using keratin glue to create thin strands. They are not sold as loose hair. This means that pre-bonded hair extensions can refer to u-tip/nail-tip, stick tip, and nano-tip types.
So which one should you get? Each kind of pre-bonded hair extension has its own pros and cons. Knowing about them will help you choose the right product for yourself.
U-Tip/Nail-Tip: These pre-bonded extensions are fitted strand by strand, using a heat connector to melt the glue or keratin resin and fuse the hair strand to your natural hair at the root. This makes them a great option for those with fine or compromised hair that isn’t strong enough to bear the weight of micro rings. However, u-tip hair extensions use heat, which may potentially cause damage if not applied properly.
Stick-Tip and Nano-Tip: These are both fitted using micro-rings or shrinkie tubes. These techniques are considered safer because there is no need to use direct heat to attach the extensions to the natural hair. Both types look more natural because the bonds are fitted strand by strand, thus becoming undetectable. Because they are glued or attached using micro rings or shrinkie tubes, they can be worn longer as they are less likely to slip than clip-in and tape-in hair extensions. That's why they are good options for those who have an active and busy life. That said, attaching them can take hours. You will need to buy special tools to attach these extensions.
