Nano Tip Hair Extensions

Nano-Tip Hair Extensions Buying Guide

Nano-Tip hair extensions are a professional individual-strand extension method designed to create particularly small and discreet attachment points. Each extension strand has a fine tip which is fitted to a small section of the natural hair using a Nano Ring.

The application does not require fusion heat or adhesive. Our Nano-Tip extensions are made using 100% human Remy-graded hair and are available across selected lengths, strand weights and shades.

What Are Nano-Tip Hair Extensions?

Nano-Tips are individual human hair extension strands with a fine attachment tip designed to sit inside a small Nano Ring.

Because each extension is applied separately, a professional stylist can control the placement and distribution of the strands according to the client's natural hair and desired finished result.

What Are Nano Rings?

Nano Rings are very small rings specifically designed for Nano-Tip extension application. Their compact size allows the attachment area to remain much smaller than a traditional micro-ring fitting.

Browse our Nano Rings to find rings and accessories suitable for professional Nano-Tip fitting.

0.5g vs 1.0g Nano-Tip Strands

Our Nano-Tip range includes both 0.5g and 1.0g individual strands across selected lengths and shades.

A 0.5g strand contains less hair per individual attachment, while a 1.0g strand provides more hair per strand. The appropriate option should take into account the client's natural hair, desired volume and the professional stylist's fitting plan.

Choosing Your Nano-Tip Length

Nano-Tip extensions are available in 14", 18", 20" and 22" lengths across selected ranges.

Shorter lengths can be useful for adding thickness, volume or more subtle additional length, while longer extensions can create a more noticeable transformation.

The client's natural starting length and the amount of blending required should also be considered before ordering.

Choosing the Right Colour

Choosing a close shade match helps Nano-Tip extensions blend naturally with the client's own hair. Compare our available shades using the Hair Extension Colour Chart before ordering.

If you're unsure which shade is the closest match, use our Colour Match Guarantee for additional help before placing your order.

Recommended Quantity

The amount of hair required will depend on the client's natural hair thickness, starting length and desired finished result. As a general guide, we recommend:

0.5g Nano-Tip Strands:
Half head — approximately 4 packs (100 strands)
Full head — approximately 8 packs (200 strands)

1.0g Nano-Tip Strands:
Half head — approximately 3 packs (75 strands)
Full head — approximately 6 packs (150 strands)

Each pack contains 25 individual strands. These quantities are recommendations only. The exact amount required can vary depending on the natural hair, desired volume and extension length, so we recommend confirming the quantity with the professional stylist carrying out the fitting.

How Are Nano-Tips Fitted?

During fitting, a professional stylist sections a small amount of natural hair and passes it through a suitable Nano Ring using an appropriate application tool.

The Nano-Tip strand is positioned inside the ring before the attachment is securely closed using professional extension pliers.

Browse our Nano Ring Tools for rings, pliers and professional fitting accessories.

Professional Removal & Maintenance

Nano-Tips should be professionally maintained and removed. During removal, the Nano Ring is carefully opened using suitable extension pliers so the extension strand can be released from the natural hair.

The extensions should never be pulled or forced out. Visit our Fitting & Removal Guides for additional guidance.

Nano Rings & Nano Ring Tools

Nano-Tip extensions require suitable Nano Rings for professional application. The fitter will also need the appropriate tools to thread, position, secure and later release the attachments.

Our Micro & Nano Ring Tools collection includes professional rings and fitting accessories for Nano-Tip and other ring-based extension methods.

Nano-Tip Hair Extension Aftercare

Suitable aftercare helps maintain both the appearance of the hair and the fitted Nano Ring attachment areas. Brush gently from the ends upwards while supporting the roots and avoid unnecessary pulling around the rings.

Wash fitted extensions upright using suitable extension aftercare products. Keep oils, conditioners and heavy creams away from the Nano Rings and attachment areas, as these products can affect the security of the fitting.

Make sure the hair, roots and attachment areas are completely dry before sleeping. Avoid concentrated heat directly on the rings or attachment points.

We do not recommend colouring, bleaching or toning our hair extensions, or using silver, purple, blue or other colour-depositing shampoos.

With suitable care, HairXtensions human hair extensions typically have a usable lifespan of around 2–3 months, although fitting, maintenance, heat styling, aftercare and individual use can all affect this. Read our complete Hair Extension Aftercare Guide.

Nano-Tip Hair Extension FAQs

What are Nano-Tip hair extensions?

Nano-Tips are individual human hair extension strands with a fine attachment designed to be secured to a small section of natural hair using a Nano Ring. The small attachment size makes Nano-Tips a discreet ring-based extension method.

Do Nano-Tip extensions use heat or glue?

No fusion heat or adhesive is required for the Nano-Tip attachment method. The extension is secured using a small Nano Ring that is professionally closed around the extension tip and a section of natural hair.

Do Nano-Tips come with Nano Rings?

Nano Rings are separate fitting accessories unless specifically stated otherwise on the individual product. Browse our Nano Rings before fitting your Nano-Tip extensions.

What tools do I need for Nano-Tip extensions?

Professional Nano-Tip fitting normally requires suitable Nano Rings together with the appropriate threading, application and extension pliers. Browse our Nano Ring Tools for professional fitting accessories.

Do Nano-Tip extensions need professional fitting?

We recommend professional fitting. Correct sectioning, Nano Ring selection, placement and tension are important. A trained stylist can also assess whether Nano-Tips are suitable for the client's natural hair.

How many Nano-Tip extensions do I need?

As a general guide, for 0.5g strands we suggest around 100 strands (4 packs) for a half head and 200 strands (8 packs) for a full head. For 1.0g strands, we suggest around 75 strands (3 packs) for a half head and 150 strands (6 packs) for a full head. The exact amount required will vary depending on the natural hair and desired finished result.

What's the difference between 0.5g and 1.0g Nano-Tips?

A 0.5g Nano-Tip contains less hair per individual strand, while a 1.0g Nano-Tip contains more hair per strand. The most suitable option depends on the client's natural hair, desired fullness and the professional fitter's application plan.

How are Nano-Tip extensions removed?

During professional removal, the Nano Ring is carefully opened using suitable extension pliers before the Nano-Tip strand is released from the natural hair. Extensions should never be pulled or forced out.

How long do Nano-Tip hair extensions last?

The usable life of the hair varies according to fitting, maintenance, washing, styling and aftercare. With suitable care, HairXtensions human hair extensions typically have a usable lifespan of around 2–3 months. Maintenance and removal timing for a fitted set should be discussed with the professional stylist.

Can I colour or tone Nano-Tip hair extensions?

We do not recommend colouring, bleaching or toning our hair extensions. We also recommend avoiding silver, purple, blue and other colour-depositing shampoos. Choose the closest suitable shade before ordering.

Can I sleep with Nano-Tip extensions wet?

No. Fitted extensions should not be slept in while wet or damp. Make sure the hair, roots and Nano Ring attachment areas are completely dry before bed, and secure the lengths in a loose plait or low ponytail where appropriate.

How do I choose the right Nano-Tip colour?

Compare your natural hair with our Colour Chart. If you're unsure which shade to choose, use our Colour Match Guarantee before placing your order.

What's the difference between Nano-Tip and Stick-Tip extensions?

Both are individual ring-based extension methods, but Nano-Tips use a much smaller Nano Ring attachment, whereas Stick-Tips are normally fitted using a larger micro ring. The preferred method will depend on the natural hair and the professional stylist's assessment. Compare the options on our Hair Extension Methods page.

What's the difference between Nano-Tip and Micro-Loop extensions?

Nano-Tips are fitted using separate Nano Rings selected by the professional fitter. Micro-Loop extensions are supplied with an application loop and micro ring already attached to each extension strand. You can compare all of our methods on the Hair Extension Methods page.
