What Are Hair Weft Extensions?

A hair weft is a continuous curtain of extension hair joined together along the top seam. Unlike individual strand extensions, the hair is supplied as one wide piece which can then be measured and customised by the fitter for the chosen installation method.

Wefts are commonly used for professional weave applications where sections of the weft are positioned across the head to build length and volume.

What Does Double-Wefted Mean?

Our hair wefts use a double-weft construction, providing a generous amount of hair across the continuous piece.

The weft measures approximately 55–60 inches across before customisation, giving the professional fitter flexibility to divide and position sections according to the required fitting plan.

Choosing Your Weft Length

HairXtensions wefts are available in 14", 18", 20" and 22" lengths.

The best length depends on the client's natural starting length and desired finished result. Shorter wefts can be useful for adding thickness and more subtle length, while longer lengths can create a more dramatic transformation.

The natural hair should also be long enough to blend effectively with the chosen extension length.

Hair Weight by Length

The amount of hair supplied increases slightly with the selected length:

  • 14" Weft Approx. 115g
  • 18" Weft Approx. 120g
  • 20" Weft Approx. 125g
  • 22" Weft Approx. 130g

The required amount of hair will vary according to the client's natural density, head size, desired volume and fitting method. We recommend discussing requirements with the professional carrying out the installation before ordering.

Choosing the Right Colour

A close shade match helps the weft blend naturally with the client's own hair. Compare the available shades using our Hair Extension Colour Chart before ordering.

If you're unsure which colour is most suitable, use our Colour Match Guarantee before altering, cutting or fitting the weft.

How Can Hair Wefts Be Fitted?

Hair wefts can be used with a variety of professional fitting techniques, including methods such as the LA Weave, micro-ring weave techniques, sew-in applications and professional adhesive fitting methods where appropriate.

For professional adhesive applications, we stock both White Hair Glue & Remover and Black Hair Glue & Remover. These products are intended for trained professional use.

Because sectioning, placement and tension are important, we recommend professional assessment, fitting and maintenance. Visit our Fitting & Removal Guides for more information.

Can a Hair Weft Be Cut?

Yes. The continuous weft can be measured and cut into smaller sections where required for the chosen fitting method.

When a weft is cut or customised, we recommend protecting the modified edge using our HairX Pro Weft Sealer. Sealing the cut edge can help reduce unnecessary shedding from the customised section.

Once a weft has been cut, altered or otherwise modified, it cannot be returned under our goodwill change-of-mind return policy.

Can a Weft Be Made into Clip-Ins?

Yes. A human hair weft can also be customised to create individual Clip-In pieces by measuring and cutting suitable sections and securely attaching extension clips.

When the weft is cut, protect the customised edges with a suitable product such as HairX Pro Weft Sealer before attaching the clips.

If you prefer a ready-to-wear removable option, you can also shop our Clip-In Hair Extension Sets.

Professional Removal & Maintenance

Removal depends on the fitting method used. Ring-based weave systems require the relevant attachments to be carefully released, while sewn methods require the supporting thread to be correctly removed.

Where a professional adhesive method has been used, a suitable remover should be used as part of the correct removal process. Our White and Black Hair Glue & Remover kits include both bonding glue and remover.

Do not pull or force a fitted weft from the natural hair. We recommend professional maintenance and removal.

How Much Hair Will I Need?

There is no single quantity that will suit every client. Hair requirements depend on natural hair thickness, desired length and volume, head size and the fitting technique being used.

Each HairXtensions weft contains approximately 115g–130g of hair depending on length. Before ordering additional pieces, we recommend asking the professional fitter to calculate the amount required for the planned installation.

Hair Weft & Weave Aftercare

Correct aftercare is particularly important when a weft is worn as a semi-permanent weave. Brush gently from the ends upwards while supporting the hair and attachment area, and take care not to pull excessively around the fitted rows.

Wash the hair upright using suitable extension aftercare products. Rinse thoroughly and ensure the natural hair, weft seam, roots and attachment areas are completely dry before sleeping.

Keep oils, conditioners and heavy creams away from fitted attachment areas where appropriate for the chosen method, and avoid concentrated heat directly on rings, thread or other attachments.

We do not recommend colouring, bleaching or toning our hair extensions, or using silver, purple, blue or other colour-depositing shampoos.

With suitable care, HairXtensions human hair extensions typically have a usable lifespan of around 2–3 months, although fitting, maintenance, frequency of wear, heat styling and individual aftercare can all affect this. Read our full Hair Extension Aftercare Guide.

Important: Check Before Cutting or Fitting

Before cutting, sewing, fitting or otherwise altering your weft, check the colour, length and suitability carefully.

If you intend to cut or customise the weft, consider using HairX Pro Weft Sealer on the modified edges before fitting.

Modified hair cannot be returned under our goodwill change-of-mind returns policy. Where a hygiene ribbon is supplied, it must remain intact for an eligible return. Please read our Returns & Exchanges page before making any alterations.

Hair Weft & Weave FAQs

What is a human hair weft?

A hair weft is a continuous curtain of extension hair joined together along the top seam. It can be measured, customised and fitted using a suitable professional weave method to add length, volume and thickness.

How wide are HairXtensions wefts?

Each HairXtensions human hair weft measures approximately 55–60 inches across before any customisation or cutting.

What lengths and weights are available?

Our wefts are available in 14" approximately 115g, 18" approximately 120g, 20" approximately 125g and 22" approximately 130g.

What does double-wefted mean?

Double-weft construction means the hair has been created as a fuller continuous weft rather than a lighter single-layer piece, providing a generous amount of hair for professional customisation and fitting.

Should I use Weft Sealer when cutting a weft?

We recommend protecting cut or customised sections with a suitable weft sealant. Our HairX Pro Weft Sealer is designed for use on modified wefts and tracks to help protect the cut edge and reduce shedding.

Can hair wefts be fitted with glue?

Adhesive fitting is one of several possible professional weft application methods. Where this technique is appropriate, we stock White Hair Glue & Remover and Black Hair Glue & Remover. These products are intended for trained professional use.

Can a hair weft be cut into smaller pieces?

Yes. A continuous hair weft can be cut into smaller sections where required. We recommend protecting the modified edge with HairX Pro Weft Sealer before fitting. Cutting or modifying the hair also affects change-of-mind return eligibility.

Can I turn a hair weft into Clip-In extensions?

Yes. Sections of a weft can be cut to suitable widths and extension clips can be securely attached to create removable pieces. Protect the cut edges before use. If you prefer a complete ready-to-wear set, browse our Clip-In Hair Extensions.

Do hair wefts need professional fitting?

We recommend professional fitting for semi-permanent weave methods. Correct placement, sectioning and tension are important, and a trained fitter can assess which method is appropriate for the client's natural hair.

Can hair wefts be fitted without glue?

Yes. Professional methods such as ring-based weave techniques and suitable sew-in methods can be fitted without adhesive. The appropriate method should be selected according to the client's hair and the professional fitter's assessment.

How much hair weft do I need?

The amount required varies according to natural hair thickness, desired length and volume, head size and the chosen fitting method. Our wefts contain approximately 115g–130g depending on length, and we recommend confirming the required quantity with the professional fitter before ordering.

How long do human hair wefts last?

With suitable care, HairXtensions human hair extensions typically have a usable lifespan of around 2–3 months. Individual wear, fitting, maintenance, washing, heat styling and aftercare can all affect the condition and usable life of the hair.

Can I colour or tone my hair weft?

We do not recommend colouring, bleaching or toning our hair extensions. We also recommend avoiding silver, purple, blue and other colour-depositing shampoos. Choose the closest suitable shade before altering or fitting the weft.

Can I sleep with a fitted weave wet?

No. Do not sleep with fitted extensions while the hair, roots or attachment areas are wet or damp. Make sure everything is completely dry before bed and secure the lengths in a loose plait or low ponytail where appropriate.

How do I choose the right hair weft colour?

Compare your natural hair with our Colour Chart. If you're unsure which shade to choose, use our Colour Match Guarantee before cutting, altering or fitting the hair.

How do wefts compare with other hair extension methods?

Wefts provide a continuous section of hair, whereas methods such as Nail-Tips, Stick-Tips, Nano-Tips and Micro-Loops use individual strands. Tape-Ins use pre-taped sections, while Clip-Ins are designed to be removable. Compare the options on our Hair Extension Methods page.
